My experience

Hello people, Today I am going to talk about my experiences in English IV, this is very important today because is the last post!

I remember my first post in English III and I very scared because my English is not very good, especially my “written English” and then I thought “what am I going to write about”? But when the day came to write the first post, it was not as terrible as I thought, and to this day in English IV I like to write in the blogs because is very fun write about topics that I like, for example, books, movies, my concerts, or sciences.  For the other hand I did not like making the videos because I didn´t remember what I had to say so I had to records it many times and  lost a lot of time on that L but it has also helped me to disinhibit myself more with English, as well as with oral interaction (although I would like it not to be evaluated jejeje) and in the exam we will see what happens (I hope everyone who who reads this post will do very well J )

 

This experience has served me a lot, since my “written English” has improved a lot and now I can speak it better than before (yeeeii J ), but I would like to take a course later to improve even more, since in a scientific career it is totally necessary.

In general I don´t use English much, only when I have to watch a recently released series or for the paper in my subject the pharmacology of systems I,but I would like to use it more, like talking to other people to practice more and stop being so afraid of English.

Finally, it was a nice experience, meet new people, I laughed, in general I enjoyed it a lot!

Changes

Hi people, today I am going to write about the changes I would like to make in the program of my career or in my university in general.

As I have told you before, I am study chemistry and pharmacy in the University of Chile and even though it is one on of the best universities in the country, it still lacks several things, for example, in my faculty many closed spaced are missing, renew certain laboratories (but I still love it because it gives a special touch), maybe renew some equipment to be more updated with today is technology, but above all the university needs to think more in the mental health of their students.

Being one of the best universities in the country, it has to keep a prestige, so the workload is very high, affecting the yield of students. As a fourth-year student I feel that there are many subjects that are not necessary for the career, for example, “calculo” or “OPU” or “fisicoquimica”, in general, the first two years of this career have subject that we will never apply in our profession, so it would remove the to relieve a little more the load and also the duration of the race would be less.

But in spite of these things, the university also has positive things, like its rooms, where they are well equipped with good technology where the teachers can project their classes. The laboratories are old (in Ceruti, because “tottus” jejej es more current) but they have everything that is needed, they have both old and new equipment, everything depends on the subject or the teacher and their area, but I think there will come a time where they will have to renew certain things so that students in the working world do not encounter something so different, it is probably when I am not there anymore, but the important thing is to be done so as not to be outdated.

My opinion

Hi people, today I am going to write about my opinions on diverse topics like the legalization of abortion in the 3 cases, the women in the military, the climate change, and the recycling.

The feminism is a topic that has been very relevant in recent years, and I consider myself part of this great cause so I am totally in favor of the woman deciding on her body and her life.

So what is my opinion about the legalization of abortion in the 3 cases?

Well, with the above, I think my opinion about this issue is quite clear, the women have every right to decide about their own body at all times, not only when is one of these 3 causes, if she does not want to be a mother and abort, she can do it without consulting anyone, just as a father does not ask if he can give in adoption or simply leave his son, the women does not have to either. If the women decides that she can not raise that child or just does not want to have it, in my opinion It is better to abort than to bring that child into the world in which he will only suffer in a children´s home.

And What is my opinion about women in the military? Just as women can decide on her body, so can she do with her career or her profession. We are no longer in the age of the caverns and women can perfectly be in the militia and defend her country like any other man.

On the other hand, another very important topic is the climate change, in my opinion this is caused only by humans, because to the ambition of the people with more money and their big factories that only pollute, and also the little education and culture of the people has made the poles melt nowadays, the lakes dry up, and we have tons of garbage in places that could be full of vegetation, and a great way to counteract this climate change is with recycling, if Chile had laws where people were forced to recycle, as in korea, Santiago would not be so contaminated and people would not get so sick. I hope that one day this may happen, if not all of us will die in a couple years because the planet became bored with human beings and its capacity to destroy everything it touches.

Epilepsy

Hi people, today I am going to write about the epilepsy a disease of the central nervous system, a topic that we have studied in the class of “pharmacology of systems I” and I think this topic is very interesting because the epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder and affects people of all ages, also in chile one in every hundred people have this disease.

The Epilepsy is a chronic disorder, characterized by critical episodes called epileptic crises (unprovoked seizures).  A person is diagnosed with epilepsy if they have two unprovoked seizures (or one unprovoked seizure with the likelihood of more) that were not caused by some known and reversible medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar. The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but often the cause is completely unknown.

There are two types of epilepsy, the “petit mal seizures” which is characterized by a crisis of absence where there is no loss of consciousness, and the “grand mal seizures” which is the seizure as such, and is very limiting for the person since he cannot lead a normal life.  

There are different first, second, and third generation drugs that help treat this disease, one of the most important is Lamotrigine, because it is the only drug used in pregnant women, since treatment during pregnancy cannot be suspended because the seizures can bring serious consequences to the baby

I have lived this disease very closely, since my brother Valentin suffered from epilepsy when he was a child throughout his life he only had two crises and thanks to his constant treatment, his good nutrition, and exercise at age 17 was discharged.

Post Graduate Studies

Hi people! today I am going to write about my post graduate studies.

Even tough I have not finished my studies, chemistry and farmacy, (and I have still plenty left), I am very clear that I want to continue studying, in part because it's something that my proffesion usually demands and also everybody wants to, and part because there's a lot of choices given to us, either by studying in my country or abroad (trough scolarships).

I want to start with a diplomat in clinical farmacy because it's one of the many areas I like the most, this one I would like to do it in the Universidad de Chile, since its program is very good and complete, besides its disponibility allows me to work in order to pay my studies since it's in the evening for 3 years. It has subjects like cardiologý, infectious diseases, oncology, geriatry, etc., that I think will allow me to become a better profesional in the clinic area.

On the other hand, I would like to take a postgraduate in Spain, because it has very well evaluated in my professional area, and also because it would make a good choice for making not only academic experiencies but also personal.

Another good choice is doing a postgraduate that allows for courses online and some in person, because if I'm working my time will be very limited plus the stress of it all... is too much.

But the most important thing I want to do before I do all of this, is take a break from studying, save money and travel, just to enjoy myself a little before I start studying again. 

My Future Job

Hello people, today I going to write you about my future Job. 

I´m study chemistry and pharmacy and with this career I have many opportunities to a find a job in a different areas, it can be in a pharmacy, investigation, assistance, laboratory, and clinic. Each of these areas has something that I like, but, the ones that I like the most are laboratory and clinic.

I like the clinical area because I can directly help the people, I can work with doctors to decide the best therapy for the patient and I think that by interacting with patients, and following their treatment directly, I can bring both my humanity and my profession, something that often falls far in the area of health.

On the other hand, I like the laboratory area, just thinking about this I smile, because, I imagine trying to find the cure for the cancer or HIV, or for any of the thousands of diseases that are. But for this I need the postgraduate in both clinical and laboratory, so I probably after the finishing my career I study again to specialize in one of these two areas, and I would love to study outside the country.

in both jobs the salary is good, is approximately over a one million (it is probably more but I´m not sure), what will allow me to travel or study, and also I would like to be able to work in the open air but for safety reason it is obviously not possible, so, in my free time I will have to do outdoor activities to compensate for the confinement of a laboratory or clinic/hospital. 

About Love, Pets and Friendship

Hi people, today I going to write you about my pets and my love for they.

Throughout my life I have had different pets, dogs, hamster, and birdie but the best is my current dog Facundo Pascal Matus and my nephew Bruno (my cousin Franco´s dog).

Facundo is a dog of pudul breed, he came to my house with 3 months, today he is 11 years old. At first it was a very tender dog, but with the passage of time and our bad upbringing it became a bad dog, he does not like people very much, and he also does not like to be caressed, then you can only caress him when he wants. In my family we joke saying that it is the reincarnation of Hitler because of how bad it is, but nobody imagines it because it has a very tender face. In spite of that we love him with all our hearts, he is a very smart dog that when someone is sick at home he warns, especially with my grandmother. 

The other puppy that occupies a special place in my heart is Bruno, My cousin´s dog. Every time my cousin goes on a trip, I take care of him. Bruno as well as Facundo, is a very smart dog, he knows how to sit down, give his leg and when you ask for a kiss he gives it to you, and Bruno is the only one who likes to play with my dog, they are great friends. 

My Favourite Book and Film

Hello people, today I going to write you about my favourite book and film.

When I was 13 years old I read my first book for pleasure which was Harry Potter and Philosopher´s Stone, then continue with the all saga, and of course I saw all the movies, even I have my collection of Harry Potter objects…yes! I´m a Potterhead! But although I´m a fan of this saga, my favourite book is pride and prejudice and my favourite film is Belle.

The first time I read Pride and Prejudice (written by wonderful Jane Austen) I was 15 years old, and I read it because it is almost a family tradition…only of women obviously since it is romantic novel, which tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet who learns the error of making hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between the superficial and the essential, all this he learns when he realizes that he is in love with the perfect Mr.Darcy, who was a rich and powerful man with a lot of pride , who did not want to fall in love with a poor woman like Elizabeth and less to have a kinship with her family. This book is not just a romantic story, but it tells you about an empowered woman in a time where women were despised.

On the other hand , my favourite film is Belle (yes! I really like the stories of another time) tells the story of Dido Belle who was born in the West Indies and was the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Sir Jhon Lindsay who leaves her to the care of her uncles.

The fictional film centres on Dido relationship whit and aspiring lawyer the Sir Davinier it is set at a time of legal significance, as a court case is heard on what became know as the Zong Massacre, when slaves were thrown overboard from a slave ship. You have to see this film because it shows you how a woman mixed race must face the discrimination of society, a strong woman who learned to accept her origins even when everyone told her that it was as abomination. 

My Concerts

Throughout my life I have been to many concerts the first was the Jonas Brothers when I was 13 years old, then I went to see one of my favourite bands paramore in 2011 in the "espacio riesco" and 2013 in the "movistar arena" they were one of the best concerts I´ve ever been in my life!...I remember being left speechless for shouting so much!
I also went to see Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons with my best friend both in the "movistar arena" and Ed Sheeran in the "pista atletica" with another friend.

However, my best concerts have been Tears For Fears in 2011 and Silvio Rodriguez in 2018, to which I have gone with my mom in the “movistar arena”. The atmosphere of both concerts was very quiet, the music spectacular and the best thing is that nobody pushed us.

My best memory is with the British rock band of the 80s Tears For Fears, we had waited all the concert with my mom for the group to sing "Woman in Chains", and in the end they did it, I remember we held hands and sang to all lungs that beautiful song.

Even though I have gone to many concerts throughout my life, I still have many more to go! it is something that is enjoyed too much since the music is simply magical.

A country I would like to visit

Hi people! In the first post of 2019 I will talk about a country/city that I would like to visit ... the place of my dreams.

It all started when I saw the movie "letters to Juliet" at 14 years old, this film takes place in the city of Verona and its surroundings and I fell in love with the landscapes, so I dedicated myself to find out more about this beautiful city. So yes! the city of Verona is my dream place and therefore the place I would like to visit.

The city of Verona has a lot history and culture to learn, for example, "the house of juliet" is a stately palace that was converted into a museum to represent the great love story of Romeo and Juliet by the author William Shakespeare. I would also like to visit "the arena of Verona" one of the most famous Roman amphitheatres in the world built in the first century and many other places such as the cathedral of Verona and Castelvecchi.

As much as I would like to live in a city beautiful as Verona I could not leave my country chile where my family and friends are, but Who knows? after all, who does not like Italian food? 

From the invisible to the visible world and back...

Today I will speak about of a very interesting subject in the field of sciences especially in pharmacology...the Liposomes. 
The liposomes are nanoparticles, which are used as a vehicle for administration of nutrients and pharmaceutical drugs. 
I studied this issue for the subject "Research for the pharmaceutical sciences", where we specifically focus on the action of liposomes on skin cancer. 
This topic is very important in the pharmacological world because the liposome acts as a vehicle for anticancer agents , targeting cancer cells specifically without side effects as in common therapies (For example chemotherapy, which has cytotoxic agents that attack both good and bad cell, causing secondary affections such as hair loss).
One of the advantages of liposomes is that various modifications can be made to improve their specificity, such as adding proteins to the surface of their membrane, which will make a better recognition of the cancer cells, releasing the anticancer agent(drug) only in those "bad cells ". On the other hand, this treatment is so new and innovative, that even the scientists continue making various modifications to the liposomes, which are very expensive, which is a great disadvantage if you want to generate a cure in the skin cancer.
This topic we exposed with my friends a week ago, and clearly if the scientists continue with the studies of liposomes and their various modifications to treat not only skin cancer if not any other type, you could reach a cure, which Is a necessity nowadays in many people.

The most enjoyable subject ...

Hi people! Today I will speak about to my favorite subject Organic Chemistry.

Organic chemistry is a subject which combines the theoretical with the practical in equal parts since I have organic chemistry and organic chemistry lab; both subjects are a challenge, because it is the basis of everything that I can learn in the future.

 For me, the organic chemistry is very interesting because this subject studies all those compounds that contain carbon, and almost everything that one eats, drinks or simply what makes the body work is produced thanks to carbon (for this reason the carbon is called the basis of life ).

My classes of organic chemistry are divided into two parts, one of theoretical class, and another called seminary, where you practice what is seen in the theoretical class and everything that I learn in this subject, I apply it in organic chemistry lab, and that I just love it! Here we can synthesize so many things, and see so many reactions that it just makes me wonderful to go to the laboratory.

Well...learning organic chemistry will help me in the future to be able to synthesize drugs in order to help people, and that is the most important thing for me.

Person/Expert you admire

The greatest contributors to science have always been men and they have always been rewarded for their discoveries since ancient times, but women have also contributed a lot to science, for example, Maria Curie, Jane Goodall, Emmy Noether, or Barbara McClintock, she discovered the transposition – genes moving about within chromosomes – often described as jumping genes, and showed that genes are responsible for switching the physical traits of an organism on or off, but for a long time his works were not taken into account, 30 years later he was awarded the Nobel Prize...30 years!! is something I still can not believe!

But the most emblematic and admirable case for me is the Rosalind Franklin. She was born on July 25, 1920 in London, the second of five brothers, three of them men, in a Jewish family that had four generations dedicated to the banking. At age 18 she passed the entrance exam at Newnham College in Cambridge to study experimental sciences and, in particular, chemistry.  Her father did not accept Rosalind's decision and took away her support of money, however, but his aunt paid his studies, and so she graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1941. She learned crystallography and X-ray diffraction, techniques that she applied to DNA fibers. One of her photographs (Known as photograph 51) provided key insights into DNA structure. But, Other scientists (Watson and Crick) used it as evidence to support their DNA model and took credit for the discovery, who were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1962. 
Rosalind Franklin never received any recognition in life, on the contrary, Watson and Crick almost never mentioned it, but that was not an impediment to continue looking for the answer to questions that were unimaginable, teither was her father an impediment for her to study! For these and many other reasons as her discoveries is that she is a woman to admire ... we must always look for ways to produce knowledge regardless of the difficulties that are put in the way or the prizes that one can receive for it .

A Photograph You Like

The photograph is something very important in my life, because it immortalizes unforgettable moments, and unique and very important people in my life. I usually take selfies with my family and friends and I print them and after that I stick them on the wall of my room, so I can remember every day how lucky I am.
One of the most important photographs for me it's with my cousin Paolo when we were kids. This photo was taken by my mother in my house when we were 4 years old
My cousin was born six months before me, and from the moment I was born, we have been together, he is more than my cousin, he is my brother and my best friend, And this photograph I like it because it represents all the affection and complicity that we have always had until today.
Paolo is the person with whom I have more photos,, because we have spent together all important processes, and we share the same friends and family, I think that makes us have many photos together...dont you think?

Music in my life

The music es very important in my life, because it is what most relaxes me. The music it is everywhere, just pay attention and listen!

Overall I like all kinds of music, from metal when I clean my house with my mom, to electronic music, salsa, or reggaeton when I go out with my friends, but the kind of music I like the most is the pop, rock and classical music. All these styles have things that please me, and I have a favorite singer or group in each style, for example my favorite  female singer in pop  is taylor swift and my favorite male singer is Ed sheeran, it so happens, that the two of them in real life are best friends!! They Even made a song together called "everything has changed" and I really love soooo much that song (it was all a hit!).
On the other hand, my two favorite rock bands are Imagine Dragons and Paramore, both bands have come to chile, and of course I've gone, It would not lose it me for anything in the world!
and my favorite classical music duet is "2 cellos", they make covers of all kinds of bands! they are wonderful!

My favorite instruments are the cello and piano, He even played the piano !! Is something that I love doing because it relaxes me and, I learned to play the piano by my grandmother, she always wanted to learn but never had the opportunity to do so, and and when I was 10 years, she gave me a piano and I learned to play it, since then I play for her.


As I said, the music is everywhere, I learned that from the movie "august rush" this movie has an incredible soundtrack, just like the lord of the rings, Titanic, Gladiator or Interstellar, but the music I'll never forget is that of all Disney movies! I remember all the songs and to this day I sing them when I see, for example, the beauty and the beast, the little mermaid, and of course my favorite ...the lion king.

• ·         What is your opinion about smart phones?

In my opinion the smartphones is the best invention of the world because has many functions and organizes my life in many ways, but although I use it a lot this is not really necessary… there are more important things in this life.

• ·         What is your opinion about women in the military?

I think the woman can work in any area, including in the militia since in these times it has been shown that women are not only mothers but much more!.

• ·         What is your opinion about the Chilean politicians?

I´m pretty sure that the Chilean politicians could do their job much better. For me, they only care about money nothing else.

• ·         What is your opinion about violence on television?

In my opinion the violence on television should not be allowed mainly by children because violence generates more violence.

• ·         What is your opinion about fortune telling?

I'm pretty sure that the "future telling" doesn't really exist, for me is a divination game which takes advantage of people's anxiety.

• ·         What is your opinion about soap operas on Chilean TV?

In my opinion soup operas on Chilean TV are very bored and stupids, because they do not show the Chilean reality, and also deride Chilean families.

• ·         What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana?

I think they should legalize marijuana because it would help some sick people and would also reduce drug trafficking.

• ·         What is your opinion about  climate change?

I´m pretty sure that the climate change is caused only by humans, product of the ambition of the wealthiest people, and the ignorance of the poorer classes.

• ·         What is your opinion about cloning?

I agree with cloning (at the cellular level), as long as it is for the benefit of living beings, but not for cloning humans, because it would not be natural and I do not like that.!!

• ·         What is your opinion about recycling?

In my opinion recycle, is an action that connects us with the planet, and would protect future generations. In these times, it is absolutely necessary to take the habit of recycling, so we can clean our planet from the pollution it suffers.

• ·         What is your opinion about “barras bravas”?

I think that "barras bravas" should be eliminated, because they have only caused damages to public spaces, causing that the families no longer attend the stadiums due to the violence. It's not bad to be fanatic, but with responsibility!

• ·         What is your opinion about legalizing abortion in some cases?

In my opinion the abortion is a decision that must be made by the woman, no matter what the cases. The Technology.

Hi! Dear reader, today is the day for talking about something very important in our lives...the technology.
I was born in a very technological age; in 1996 there were already computers, telephones, radios, televisions, microwave ovens, etc, and as the years pass the technology is evolving more and more, but between all the pieces my favourite is my beautiful Smartphone because it is very comfortable in many ways! It is small, and has many functions. In my smartphone I have many important things for me;   My contacts, music, movies, even books, and of course many photos of my family, friends, and pets.

I usually use my smartphone for everything, to talk to my family, my friends, to take pictures of everything around me (also Selfies! jeje)  and publish them in my social networks like Instagram or Facebook, I even study with it, and I can get anywhere thanks to its application "maps"! It´s so magic what my smartphone can do!




The first time I had a smartphone was in 2012, back then I did not use it too much, just to listen to music and play games (I was a little girl!), but now (in the university) I use my smartphone many times in the day especially to communicate with my classmates, or to read some information of "U-cursos". 
I really like the smartphone because it organizes my life in many ways and even amuses me with the social networks and youtube, but that does not mean that I can not live without it. yes! It is important but the most important thing is the relationship you have with people without the need for technology, everything else is not really necessary. If our ancestors could survive without smartphones, televisions, radios, or microwaves, I'm sure we will too.

My student Life

When I was a Child (in the primary school), I always wanted to be a doctor because I could help people and I loved the biology, and also I wanted to be a musician, even I had classes of piano. Later I decided that music would only be a hobbie.
In the high school I was still loved biology, so that I continued with the idea of studying medicine, but my teacher of chemistry was so good that made me fall in love of chemistry, and I thought of studing degree in chemistry.
In the summer of 2013 I realized a course of microbiology in the University of Chile, and this made me change my decision to study medicine, now I loved the world of microbiology, so that I thought study biochemistry, but the job is very reduced.
Then, when I ending the high school, I took a year to choose a career, because I was very confused, and also to prepare the PSU.
In the Preuniversity institution I decided study chemistry and pharmacy in the university of Chile or University of Santiago, that career was my only choice because it contained everything I liked.

And Well ... Now I study chemistry and pharmacy in the university of chile (yes! I did it!). Here, I have met the best people in the world ... my beautiful friends, they make my days more fun. The university is terrifying and stressful  experience, but I love what I study and I have a great time.
Finally, when I finish my studies I want to work in a laboratory in the investigation area or in a clinical pharmacy.

Getting to know each other...

My name is Viviana Abarca Acuña I`m born in Santiago, Chile and I`m the only child of my parents, but, fortunately my family on my mother`s side is very big. I have 7 uncles and 17 cousin. My grandmother is the queen of the family, she is 89 years old...is a very wise woman. I`m the youngest granddaughter and of course I`m the favorite. 

I studied in my childhood and adolescence in two school: Marques de Ovando and San Cristobal College, and now, with 20 years old, I study chemistry and pharmacy in the university of Chile, where I have many friends.  The university is a terrifying but very fun experiences, if you reading this you not scared, you will have a lot of fun, so enjoy it.

I love doing many thing like play the piano, watching Games of Thrones with my family, out with my friends and above all read novels, right now i'm reading "the longest ride"by Nicholas Sparks, one of my favourite authors.

And that is all about me. Remember to love your family, your boyfriend, your friends, and above all things love to smile... because, I do and you?
